About Pamaialoha Kaninau, Master Hawaiian Quilter
After a memorable experience volunteering at the Hoolaulea last year, Pamaialoha Kaninau was impassioned to support the 2023 Hoolaulea event by making a personal donation. A master Hawaiian quilter, Pamai decided to donate a quilt she created in 2012. Entitled “The Monster Monstera” the quilt displays the actual size of monstera leaves she gathered from her neighbor’s yard. Pamai spent nine months on this quilt, only working in the best sunlight hours, usually from 11 am to 3 pm, while listening to Chopin. Pamai quilts on her lap without any hoop and the entire quilt is handsewn. A distinctive feature on her quilt is the echo or wave pattern that she uses to surround her leaves.
